Internet Access

Post by arminefsharnejat » May 3rd, 2018, 11:40 am

Hi all,
first at all an easy question! should we instal Virtualbox on our Server, can we instal Virtual Box on a Computer and connect it to server? can the other Computers connect to each other?

we have a Problem in our Company with Nim. we want to have internet Access to Nim, bcz some other members living in other stat und they should be able to have Access to Nim Online. I read the help but i couldnt find a solution.
i have read this before.

Network Access & VPN
On an internal network, NIM is accessible through HTTP or HTTPS ports. Externally NIM can be accessed through a HTTP or HTTPS port opened on a firewall, however, it is recommended to use a VPN between locations if using HTTP or restrict traffic to HTTPS to ensure the security of your information.

Thank a lot

Hi Armin,

You can install VirtualBox just about anywhere like. Typically this is installed on a computer that is always on and can be connected to your file servers.

Users external to your network can access NIM through a web browser as it is essentially served as a website. For access outside of your internal network, you have 2 options. The first is to give your external users VPN access to your network. The second option is to open an HTTPS port on your firewall that directs users to the NIM VM address. Both of these options do require you to work with your current firewall to provide either form of access.

I hope that clears things up.

Thanks
Andrew

Hello,

is there any option to connect via connectors from external to our NIM system?
We will need to connect different facilitys and external artists to us.

Thanks

Hi Filip,

The connectors communicate with NIM over HTTP or HTTPS so you have a couple of options here. First you can open an HTTPS port on your firewall. This comes with some additional consideration to fully lock down the NIM VM and we can provide you with best practices there. The second option is to provide a VPN connection that allows users to access NIM. For connecting multiple facilities, many of our customers are linking sites with VPNs.

Depending on your needs there are further considerations for remote artists. The NIM Connectors will direct the host application to open/save files to the selected project server. File data is not sent through the connectors so the host application needs direct access to the defined project path. If a user is offsite and does not have a connection to the project server then the connector won't have a path to save to. A VPN can resolve this, or remote users can create a similar path locally which will work just as well.

Cheers,
Andrew
